Palmerston North Hospital Pharmacy does not dispense outpatient prescriptions except for a restricted range of medicines not normally available from a community pharmacy.

Clinical Pharmacists regularly visit inpatient wards to provide medicines management services and advise on medicines. Patient services such as medication reviews and information on medicines is part of this process.

Patients should bring any current medicines (with the exception of controlled drugs which should be stored securely at home) into hospital with them on admission as inpatients. Medication lists are also encouraged to be brought to hospital. This ensures that the optimal information about medications being taken is available to the health team at the time of admission. Pharmacists may call a patient's GP or regular community pharmacist to confirm or clarify differences in medication history.
